Rules

THE TEAM
Teams will be made up of 6-10 players. There will be 6 players competing on a side; others will be available as substitutes. Substitutes may enter the game only during timeouts or in the case of injury.

THE FIELD
The game may be played on a gym court. The playing field shall be a rectangle at least 50 ft long and at least 30 ft wide, divided into two (2) equal sections by a center boundary line.

THE EQUIPMENT
The official ball used in our games will be a 8" dodgeball. Participants must wear shoes. No metal cleats will be allowed.

THE GAME
The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them "OUT". This may be done by:

1. A player hit anywhere on the body with a ball is out, including the head or clothes. There are no deflections for outs.

2. Having the ball knocked out of your hands by a ball thrown by the opposing team.

3. Having the ball you threw, caught by the opposing team before it makes contact with anything else. (A ball cannot be deflected and then caught to eliminate a person.)

4. A person steps out of bounds even though they are not retrieving a ball.

5. An illegal substitution is made. (If a substitution is made at an inappropriate time, both players shall be out.)A ball is considered "dead" once it makes contact with the ground or anything else.Game begins by placing the dodgeballs along the center line. Players then take a position behind their end line. The balls shall be placed along the center line. Following a signal to start the game, teams may approach the centerline to retrieve the balls. Games are played with 6 balls and a team may only grab 3 balls to start the game. The balls must be brought behind the "blue*" line before they are eligible to be thrown.

6. If a team is ahead by 1or more players, the opposing team must be given a ball to compete with.

7. The first team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be declared the winner.

8. A ball caught out of bounds does not count as an out.

9. Sudden Death - When time runs out and both sides have equal numbers of opposing players, sudden death is called. Each side chooses three players to participate and are set on the attack line. The first team to eliminate a player on the other team wins.

TIME-OUTS & SUBSTITUTIONS
Each team will be allowed one (1) 60 second timeout per game. At this time a team may substitute players into the game.

RULE ENFORCEMENT
Rules will be enforced primarily by the "honor system". Players will be expected to rule whether or not a hit was legal or whether they were legally eliminated.

BOUNDARIES
During play, all players must remain within the boundary lines. Players may leave the boundaries only to retrieve stray balls. Team members who are out may retrieve balls for their teammates as long as they remain on their side of the court.

MATCH PLAY
Matches will be decided using a "best-of-three" format in which the first team to win two (2) games will be declared the winner.
